Red October - This mission uses the concept of an advanced “Boomer” submarine based on the Tom Clancy novel. The basic story line is the sub has been caught in port, and the U.S. Navy has been dispatched to take it out. You take off from the carrier, ingress, destroy the sub, egress and land. No problem.

I have designed the mission with two flights of four F/A 18’s taking off from the Reagan. One flight SEAD, one flight sub strike. The game is both single player and multi-player. I have also made the weather variable, as are some of the chances of enemy aircraft appearing to help add to re-playability.

Red October 2 - "This mission is a follow up to my "RED OCTOBER" mission Version 1.02. The basic story line is the sub has been caught in port, destroyed, and the Battle Group is attempting to exit the area. You take off from the carrier, defend the Battle Group against retaliatory strikes, and land.

I have designed the mission with two flights of four F/A 18’s taking off from the Reagan. The game is both single player and multi-player. I have also made the weather variable, as are some of the chances of enemy aircraft appearing, and different enemy fighters appearing to help add to re-playability.

Admiral's Wakeup Call - (8 pilots, 4 flights) The infamous Admiral Chekov's CVBG has been over-wintering at a port near Evenes. Intel says that the fleet is getting ready to set out to sea. Your mission is to destroy the fleet, and the admiral if you can. Your primary target is the admiral's flagship, the carrier Kuztnetsov. Since the port is neutral, try to minimize collateral damage. This mission has been optimized for multiplayer and psuedo-multiplayer (single player flying in MP mode). There are 3 friendly flights and 1 enemy flight you can choose to fly. Have a buddy step into the Mig-29 Fighter Intercept flight and try to stop you from bombing the fleet.

Flying the Gauntlet - Day time version. (2 pilots) Have you been wishing you could fly the fast & low Tornado missions like those you saw on Wings. Well now you have a chance when you fly the Gauntlet. Although the stated objective of the mission is to destroy a oil refinery, the real objective is to test your piloting skills flying at 200 feet and 450 knots as you manouver your way through a tortuous course lined with AAA and SAMs. After your touch down at your home base, you'll have to pry your hand off the joystick and wipe the sweat off your brow. It's a really hoot. Try it.

Gauntlet-Storm.zip

8 FEB 00

Flying the Gauntlet - Stormy weather version. (2 pilots) If you want to add some real foreboding atmosphere, fly the Gauntlet while lightning and thunder flash and boom all around you. Watch with awe as Nature's and AAA's fireworks are displayed before you. But don't watch too long or you will be a pile of rumble in flames.

Gauntlet-Night.zip

Flying the Gauntlet - Night time version. (2 pilots) If you think you can fly the Hornet with your eyes closed, fly the Gauntlet at night. It is dark!! You won't be able to tell if you are too close to the canyon walls until it is too late. The NAVFLIR and ATFLIR will give a tunnel view of what is ahead of you, but you are never sure how close you are to dirt. This mission is 40 minutes of terror and exhileration. Fly it at your own risk.

3 MAR 00

Mother's Bad Day - (8 Pilots) While working on another mission, I found that I could track, lock on and fire A-A missiles at Russian anti-ship missiles. Since F-15 Bob and I wanted to make a mission like the anti-cruise missile mission in Jetfighter. We couldn't get a radar to track the cruise missile in F-15, so that mission was out. Finally, we can do it! This is just a designed-for-fun mission which will give you plenty to shoot at. You will be confronted with wave after wave of Shipwreck and Sandbox missiles. If you let any through, they will hit the carrier, their primary target. You're armed to the max with AIM-120's. There are 24 Super Hornets and 8 British Tornadoes "escorts" trying to stop the missiles. Hop into your Hornet, tightened your straps and get ready for pure fun. I suggest that you use Labels to help located those little buggers.

Gauntlet II - (8 Pilots, 5 Flights) Admiral Chekov has replaced the ships he lost in the Admiral's Wakeup Call mission. His CVBG is in desperate need of fuel. Three tankers are loaded and ready to disembark for his carrier group. It is imperative that we make sure the tankers don't get to their destination.

This mission has 5 flyable flights: Strike, SEAD, Friendly CAP, two Enemy CAPs.

Typhoon - One of our 688i subs has flashed a priority message stating that at 0700 hours, A Typhoon class sub trying to make it's way to the stratigic batsion in the north pole was succesfully attacked. The 688i under orders to hit-an-run, didn't re-attack. The Typhoon is currently limping back to the sub base at Polyarnyy. It's hull was severly damaged and it cannot submerge. This is a great oppurtunity to sink one of the Russian monsters. Go in and sink the Typhoon with anti-ship missiles. 2 escort ships from the Kutznetsov battle group have been seen with this striken sub. It looks like they will escort the sub until it meets another 2 escort ships that are currently steaming full speed to the Typhoon's position. Be careful of these ships as they carry a good armament of anti-aircraft type weapons. Russian CAP and Jammers are on full blast. Be careful out there. Taking full advantage of the weakend Kutznetsov escort group, We are launching a strike package to sink the Kutznetsov also. The Russians will be stretched to the limit. It looks like we can get a few hits. Maybe even sink that sucker.

Hornet's Nest - Enemy fighter activities were a primary concern for commanders early in the war. Although we have gained air-superiority, We need to have air-SUPREMECY to wage the war our way.

Your targets for today are 4 enemy structures at Kiplyavar airbase. You will only be PART of a strike group assembled for destroying Kiplyavar airbase. USAF BUFFs will come in later on to strike the Runway, Bunkers and apron where there are lots of Russian Su-27s lined up for Fueling and arming.

Finnish Sauna - Since some months, the Russian government has started to claim rights over borderline territories with Finland. The aim is to exploite the wealth coming from woods and mineral resources, which those regions are plenty of.

Aircraft launched from the CVN76 R.Reagan are setting up barcaps along the Finnish/Russian border, showing Russians that any attemps to attack Finnish territory would necessarly involve NATO. As flight leader, you are tasked to reach your barcap station, staying in patrol for 20 minutes. Saving The Jacksonville -
In the Arctic Ocean the Northern Fleet of the Russian Navy, centered around the aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetzov along with its air wing composed of Su-33s and Mig-29Ks, is undergoing general manoeuvres. The concealed goal is to test the brand new onboard systems of the SSGN Oscar II type submarine, Smolensk - K410. As usual in these circumstances, the U.S. Navy keeps ears and eyes wide open, trying to get as much intelligence as possible.
Something has gone wrong, though. The USS Jacksonville - Los Angeles class submarine SSN699 - under yet uncertain circumstances has collided with the Smolensk. Thankfully the two boats suffered only minor damage. While the Smolensk is reported to be steaming to Murmansk, the Jacksonville is trying to recover under the sheltering umbrella of the R. Reagan CVBG, 200 NM west. The Russians are very disappointed for what they say to be an inexcusable intrusion. While the international diplomacy is trying to lowerthe rising tension between USA and Russia, your task is to offer aerial cover to the Jacksonville, until the USS Nicholas FFG47 - which has been sent off - joins the submarine.

This is a single player mission, where your flight is tasked to track and destroy Scud launcher mobile ramps. You've got to fly to your assigned station, then contact the J-STARS - which is not available before - ask for your target, then strike. I added also a FAC, which could be handy if they lase the target for you, and if you have laser guided weapons on board, as I'd suggest.

19 JUL 00

Black Sea - This file contains 6 linked missions. Here is the mission background:

"The Battle of The Black Sea is the name given to an actual battle that occured in Africa during the U.N.'s humanitarian famine relief mission in Somalia. On October 23, 1993 about 100 elite American troops (Army Rangers and Delta Force) were dropped by Black Hawk helicopters into the heart of the rebel stronghold in Mogadishu to capture two top aides of a Somali warlord. The operation was run in broad daylight, and was supposed to take about an hour. But the mission went very bad when two Black Hawks were shot down by RPG's shortly after dropping off the Rangers and Delta Force troops. The troops rushed to protect the helicopter crews, and were quickly surounded by thousands of heavily armed Somali's. A relief convoy of armed HUMVEE's with more Rangers, Delta Force operators and SEAL Team members tried to break through to the crash-sites, but got lost in the city, and sustained heavy casualties. The Rangers and Delta operators that were defending the crash sites were stuck there for the night. The firefight in the heart of Mogadishu that resulted lasted through the night, and was the longest firefight involving American troops since Vietnam."

"The "Battle of The Black Sea" custom mission set follows a VERY fictional "What If?" story line: What if a similar situation occured today, and what if the USN/USMC was called on to support the U.N. relief effort, with full political authority to use "whatever force necessary" to ensure success of the mission? Ironically, based on the current events in Africa, the story line may not be all that farfetched.... "

We have notified the Russians that any hostile acts will be met with "appropriate force"... in other words, you are "Weapons Free"!

There are six missions total. Four missions are land-based, from Kirkenes Airbase in Northeastern Norway, and two are carrier-based. You will lead a flight of F/A-18E's on a variety of missions. Gulf of Sidra Incident V 4.0
Revisions:
This mission is built around TSH add-on number 1. You MUST have this add-on to be able to play this mission. In the TSH installer, install these packages; TSH F-14D Cockpit (not needed but you are flying in the Tomcat so it is recomended), TSH Objects Package 1&2. If you use this mission without the TSH add-on, you'll probably experience CTD. I'm no way responsible if your computer or game is damaged because of this.
Final build (Version 4) made on the 28th January 2002 based on beta #1, version 3.5 *never released* With the release of TSH add-on 1 these changes were made:

  • MiG-29s are now MiG-23s
  • A-6s has been added to the mission (A better -80s feeling)
  • F-14A Mod1 and Mod2 added to the mission (F-14A Mod2 features a VF-32 skin, it is used as player jet)
  • With the TSH F-14D cockpit, you'll get a better F-14 feeling in the mission :)
  • Enhanced sound clips, last audio clip triggered better with the help of User Flags.

Changes to version 3.5 (beta #1 version made on 29th February 2001 *never released to the public*)
  • Aggresive MiGs
  • Better sound quality on voice overs (the size of the mission is bigger though)
  • Mission time is much more longer (if you fly the entire mission)
  • You'll notice that the mission has been changed since the three previous ones
  • More voice overs

Mission Pack - Strike Packages - (4 pilots - 1 Flight) This package contains 3 related stike missions:

Bravo Strike - ACLANT and NATO have ordered several Air Force, Navy and RAF strike packages to attack several high profile targets at the Severomorsk area. All packages will be covered by several USAF and USN units flying CAP and SEAD. Your targets for this mission is a small fuel storage facility, all tanks must be destroyed.

Quick Strike - The last strikes against the Severomorks area was highly successfull, so NATO Air Command have given NATO-combined forces to fly a big air strike into the Polyarnyy and Gadzhiyevo area and destroy all assigned targets. During the last mission, Russian forces wasn't any big threat, but that have changed. The entire target area is riddled with radars, SAMs and AAA (according to CIA and the NSA). So take it easy. Your target is an ammunition factory used by the Russian Navy.

Viper's Nest - During the last missions, fighters from the Murmansk airfield have been intercepting our strikers and support aircraft. It is in our intention to stop this. Your flight, with F-16s from Norway will destroy the airbase. Your primary targets are the hangers. The F-16s will take out the runway. The base have a fleet of MiG-29s, MiG-31s and several Flankers. Helicopters and bombers also is included.

Operation Desert Fox - This mini-campaign is based on the military attack against Iraq in december of 1998. You'll be flying a Navy F-14 Tomcat over Iraq striking several different targets.

It's preferred that you use the Desert Terrain that is included with the F/A-18 Art Manager (all missions will be during the night so you wont see the terrain that much but it will add that desert feel anyway).

13 Nov 01

Operation Enduring Freedom - Mission Pack 1 - This mission pack is based on the ongoing allied war against terrorism. You'll be flying an F-14 Tomcat. The missions are based on news information and Pentagon briefings. Each mission covers one day (fist mission is October 7). Some days wont be covered like October 12 when no strikes were carried out and days when it was limited strikes involving very few aircrafts (according to news reports).

During the missions you will fly very long distances (around 300-400 miles or more), you can make it back to the carrier with two external fuel tanks (480 gallon) if you don't use the afterburner too much. Air refueling can be tricky with the Tomcat in this game, but I've done it several times in auto-mode. I belive TSH have fixed it so you can refuel in the air with the Tomcat. If you prefer, you can just change the F-14 to the F/A-18E (in Mission Builder) and you will be able to refuel. More info in the briefings and an suggestion of what weapons you should use.

Miscellaneous: It's prefered that you use the Desert Terrain or Rocky Terrain that comes with the F/A-18 Art Manager I use the Desert Terrain.

I Spy - (8 pilots - 1 Flight) Escort a TARPS equipped F14B ("Python") to recon waypoint 4 and ensure his return to safe airspace. Hostilities between NATO and the Red Russians are at an early stage with each side still testing the other's resolve and preparedness.

This is strictly an air-to-air assigment with a variable number of threats employing assorted weaponry and strategies. There's some risk of SAM attack near the recon point. It will take at least half an hour to complete this mission if you are successful and a good deal less if you are not.

29 MAY 00

Mass on the Drop Zone - (4 pilots - 1 Flight) The Air Force wishes to forward deploy a squadron of F-15Es to Kilpyavr that are currently stationed at Kirkenes. Ramp space is extremely limited there and should the enemy launch an attack, the aircraft stationed there would be extremely vulnerable. We need to take down the airfield at Kilpyavr without damaging the runway. In order to take down the Airfield in the least amount of time, with the least amount of damage, a massive tactical airdrop of the 82nd Airborne is planned. Once on the ground these soldiers will secure the airfield and prepare it for the arrival of the F-15E squadron.

Your mission is three-fold. You will rendezvous with the C-130s North of Kirkenes Airfield and sweep ahead of their flight path - clearing it of enemy air defenses. Next you will ensure no enemy air interceptors are allowed to shoot down the Herks and their valuable cargo! Lastly, you must ensure the drop zone is clear of enemy threats by the time the C-130s arrive overhead. The Airfield is lightly defended by a small contingent of Red Russian Forces. This attack should come as a surprise to the enemy so don't over fly the Drop Zone too soon! We must maintain the element of surprise. JSTARS will be airborne monitoring the objective area. Check in for movers prior to IP.

5 JUN 00

Jumpers Away! - (4 pilots - 1 Flight) To allow for accurate and timely follow on strikes a USAF C-130 has been tasked with inserting SEAL teams near the FEBA. Once on the ground, these special teams will serve as Forward Air Controllers, allowing our fighters to press home the attack on dug in sites. These SEALS will "hole -up" during daylight hours, and then emerge at night to lase targets and generally wreak havoc on the enemy. In order to get these teams behind enemy lines they will use High Altitude, High Opening tactics whereby they will jump from the C-130 at 20,000 feet and immediately deploy their chutes. They will then glide using precise GPS navigation, under the cover of darkness, to their designated landing zones approximately 20 NM behind enemy lines. If everything goes as planned they will be invisible to enemy radar and arrive at their designated objective areas unnoticed. To facilitate these drops the C-130 will have to fly high and slow, leaving it extremely vulnerable to enemy fire.

Your Mission: Protect the "Herk" until all three teams are dropped. In order to spread the teams out behind enemy lines the C-130 will fly to three different high altitude release points, performing three different airdrops. The objective areas are on your mission map. (ALPHA, BRAVO and CHARLIE). When the last team is dropped you will hear the code word "Cheeseburger"

High Seas - (SP 2 pilots, MP 4 pilots) As tensions rise between the Blue Russian government and the Red Russian separatists, the CVN-76 Ronald Reagan Carrier Battlegroup plys the icy ocean.

A garbled distress call received from an Oil Tanker in the Norwegian Sea.... The Battlegroup dispatches a small task force to investigate.... Your flight of 2 F/A-18E's is sent to provide air cover JUST IN CASE.

Raptor Down - (SP 2 pilots, MP 4 pilots) The Russians have been quietly massing forces on the Finnish border. In a pre-emptive strike, USAF F-22's and F-117's based in Norway struck the Russian airbase at YAVR.

One of the F-22 Raptors (MANTA 3-1) was damaged in the raid, and made an emergency landing at the small USMC held Forward Operating Base just over the border in Finland. Russian forces are converging on FOB X-RAY to capture the damaged Raptor, and your 2 Ship Flight of F/A-18E's must intervene and protect the F-22 until a repair crew and spare parts can be ferried in, and the Raptor returned to flight status. Another F/A-18 strike on the remaining air defenses and troop concentration at YAVR will be mounted concurrently with your mission.

Arctic Hammer - (4 pilots, 1 flight) This mission is a sequel to "Piracy on the High Seas". The US CVBG, in retaliation for Red Russian TU-22 attacks on a task force will be conducting a Tomahawk Cruise Missile strike (Operation Arctic Hammer) on the Red Russian bomber base at Tumannyy. Recent emplacements of SA-10C SAMS threaten the Tomahawks, so manned bombers have to 'go downtown' after all! You lead a 4-ship of F/A-18E HARM shooters against the GPS Pre-Briefed SAM targets, and air defense targets of opportunity. Secondarily, after suppressing the SAMS, your flight must destroy the runway before the alert bombers can take off to attack the Tomahawk firing ships.

An airliner full of diplomats is en route to Andoya, Norway for a conference with the Russians. The Russians are asking for NATO assistance in dealing with the recent bout of civil unrest in Russia brought about by the Red Russian hardliners. A terrorist faction of these hardliners has planted a bomb onboard the airliner, and threaten to detonate it by 23:00 unless the conference is called off and the BLUE Russian government accedes to their demands. The remote detonator is aboard a tugboat plying the sea lanes in the busy Andfjorden region around Andoya. Your job is to take off at 22:30, fly the ~100 nautical miles and visually identify the tug amongst the other shipping traffic, and sink the tugboat before the detonation signal can be sent. The tools you have at your disposal are the Mark 1 Eyeball (qty 2 - or 4 in Multiplay) and your NAV and ATFLIR. The ATFLIR will let you get a VID on a ship out to about 10 nm, which is a great help.

Smart Pigs - One of the techno-war highlights of the latest Tom Clancy novel, "The Bear and the Dragon" features an attack on Chinese armor by F-16's using 'Smart Pigs' or J-SOW sensor fused munitions. I set out to use this in an F/A-18 mission. It didn't quite turn out as dramatically as the book, and the J-SOW attack was to become one of a number of mission sorties, but I kept the name :)

Mission Objectives: Red Russians are on the move, probing across the Finnish border in preparation for an armored assault. The US Navy mission is to stop the armored thrust into Finland and destroy a small armored reserve inside Russian territory. There are 4 flights of F/A-18E's:

Two flights of F/A-18E's, one carrier based and one land based, converge on a target and coordinate with the FAC to destroy everything in the area. FACFINDER2.cmf is also included which is the same mission with a slightly higher level of threat from enemy aircraft. Both can be flown either Single or Multi-Player.

Exchange.zip

25 MAR 01

Foreign Exchange - As part of an effort to achieve diplomatic accords with the Russians, a good will exchange is being made. You have flown your USN F/A-18E to the Russian CV Kuznetsov, and in turn an SU-33 pilot is visiting the CVN-76 Reagan.
You have landed and begun to meet Russian naval personnel, when it becomes apparent that the Kuznetsov Battle Group command staff has been infiltrated with Radical Red Russians. Fighting your way through the gauntlet of Russian Naval Infantry, you've gotten back in your aircraft and pushed the throttles to the stops to get airborne.
Your takeoff weight is just below the 40,000 lb maximum to allow launch from the Russian ski-jump. It will still take some fancy stick handling to avoid becoming a waterspout, but you won't want to regain THAT much altitude. You must make it out of the Russian Battlegroup SAM/AAA envelope and get to the safety of the CVN-76. A desperate radio call brings you help from the carrier, but can you avoid the Russian CAP and ready 5 pursuers long enough? Your 4 heat seekers are a small resource, so use them wisely, if at all.

Escape - (4 Pilots - 1 Flight) Your flight has been downed behind enemy lines. You've managed to elude capture and make your way to Yavir where under the cover of darkness you've stolen 4 SU-27s from the lightly defended airbase. And now the mission begins........... It's 5:20am local. Time to get these birds in the air and make the 207 mile dash to the closest Allied base (at Kiruna Sweden). The difficulty is that although you managed to let HQ know what time your coming, there will be no way to contact the CAPs patroling the border to Identify yourself as "friendly". The Naval command WILL send a four ship patrol to look for you but Air Force CAPs patrolling the area will probably not receive this info in time.

Operation Tinkerbell - (8 Pilots - 2 Flight) Gen. McCalley's NATO forces have cut-off Gen. Sergi's mechanized battalion, isolating his forces on a Norwegian peninsula. Gen. Sergi's forces have broken through the Allied lines to the east to a neutral harbor area and have commandeered three civilian ferryboats in a desperate escape attempt. They are trying to escape across the fjord with their surviving vehicles, troops and equipment.

Cobra One Flight has been assigned Interdiction Strike and is required to destroy the avenue of escape by neutralizing the ferryboats and then eliminating the enemy's combat capability by hitting a rear area supply area and units that have made it across the fjord. Collateral damage to the surrounding civilian structures, vehicles, and ships should be limited to the commandeered civilian ferryboats alone - if possible. Use the FLIR to identify your targets.

Manta Four Flight has been assigned SEAD (Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses) and is required to proceed the strike package and eliminate SAM and AAA enemy defenses.

Seawitch - (4 Pilots - 2 Flight) The Norwegian freighter "Seawitch" is several hours overdue. A serious storm at sea yesterday is blamed for the delay. The weather is clearing and the P3's are searching for the freighter as it has a high priority cargo. However, it has now been determined that the "Seawitch" experienced radio and navigational problems caused by storm damage and has wondered off course, and close to Red Russian territorial waters At sunset we received a message from the freighter stating that it was under attack from several Russian FAC gunboats. The crew has somewhat disabled the ship which has now fallen under control of an enemy assault team. It is being escorted to the Russian Port of Polyarny.

The Russians are planning on sending Hind helicopters based out of on of their forward airbase to land on the freighter's forward deck, load a portion of the "Seawitch's" cargo, electronic missile components, and ferry the components back to base. The first group of Hinds is about to depart their base for the Seawitch now. They must be stopped at all costs!

Paratrooper Insertion - (2 Pilots) A small military encampment was recently lost to the insurgence of rebel forces. The enemy is significantly disrupting our supply routes in the area. The allies are looking to recover this small stategic bivouac on the west side of a North Cape fjord.

Pay attention to onscreen texts (press "A", auto pilot when instructed). This mission gives a couple examples of the "view" function of the mission builder. Although the scenario is somewhat straight forward, it hopefully shows how 'atmosphere' can enhance a somewhat simplistic mission.

We are unsure which building is being used to store their most important supplies so FAC Paratroopers will have to be inserted to locate the target in question. R.A.S. - Russian Airshow Strike - (1 - 8 Pilots - 1 Flight) It seems they're having a military airshow in the city of Murmansk and a F117S replica is making a rare appearance. Your mission is to sneak in and take it out. 1st get your squad in formation. The sea border has a strong air defense set up, punch a hole in it and make your way to the airshow airfields. There is a strong chance you will see some border patrolling Migs as well - stay sharp. As for the airfields themselves, there is no air defense setup, but mobile defense crews are near by in storage. An estimated time for them to deploy mobile defenses is about 3 to 5 mins. So don't take too long to locate and destroy the target (F117S). As for A/A in the area, all Red Russian planes are at the airshow, so locating the target will be a bit difficult. As for the planes themselves, they are all unarmed at the moment but we estimate that there Migs will be armed in 1 to 2 mins . Stay sharp. Once the target is destroyed return to the carrier - good luck.

CMF-551-Nightraider - (2 pilots, 1 flight) In this 2 player mission you'll fly the F-117A. Use what advantages it will give you and live with the drawbacks (no radar, no Air/Air weapons, no afterburner). Sneak up on the enemy and hit him hard and unsuspected.

If you are into strategy and planning, this is the mission for you. The F-117 pilot never looks for an aerial fight. In fact, he or she flat out avoids it relying instead on the plane’s ability to remain “unseen.” However, this mission is still challenging and poor planning can lead to disaster. If you decide to give this flight a try, you’ll have to limit yourself to using only those assets shared by the F-18 and the F-117:
